Kaledo Weave Designs

These woven designs were created in Kaledo Weave as a series of stripe and plaid variations. I focused on keeping the weave structure consistent while experimenting with color, contrast, and scale to create different moods across the collection. Each textile was designed with specific garments in mind, so the patterns don’t just sit on the surface, they help shape how each piece looks and feels when worn.

Stripe Weaves

The stripe weaves in this collection explore variation within a consistent vertical structure, using a plain weave foundation to maintain cohesion across designs. By adjusting color, contrast, and stripe width, each textile shifts in mood while still feeling connected. Softer palettes create a more atmospheric, almost blended effect, while higher contrast versions emphasize rhythm and structure. The slight irregularity in the stripe edges adds a natural, less mechanical quality, giving the textiles more depth and visual movement. Overall, the stripe series functions as a grounding element within the collection, offering versatility while still carrying subtle visual interest.

Plaid Weaves

The plaid weaves build on the stripe concept by introducing intersecting warp and weft color relationships to create structured grid patterns. Each plaid explores different levels of contrast and saturation, ranging from softer, more muted combinations to bold, high-energy color pairings. The consistent weave structure allows the focus to remain on color interaction and pattern density, while the grid formation adds clarity and balance. These textiles feel more graphic and expressive compared to the stripes, providing moments of visual complexity and personality within the overall collection.

Application to Garments

When applied to garments, the stripe and plaid weaves take on different roles that enhance the overall design of each piece. The vertical stripe textiles are used to elongate the body and complement flowing silhouettes, as seen in the ruffled skirt and blouse set where the lines reinforce movement and drape. In contrast, the plaid weaves bring structure and focal interest to more compact silhouettes, such as the cropped top and mini skirt, where the grid pattern highlights garment construction and shape. Together, the textiles create a balance between fluidity and structure, allowing the collection to shift between soft, movement-driven pieces and more defined, statement looks.

Weave design details

These pages break down the technical side of each weave, including repeats, color placement, and yarn choices. They give a closer look at how each textile was built in Kaledo Weave and how the final patterns came together. The garments show how everything is used, but this section is there if you want to see how it all works behind the scenes.
